The Benefits of GRP Fibreglass Roofing

You never really appreciate just how much a roof does for you until the one you have grows holes. Late summer and early autumn is the perfect time to get your roofing problems seen to, as the process requires warm, dry weather for replacements to be successfully waterproof. Flat roofs need particular care and attention to ensure that water isn’t beginning to collect and penetrate older, more worn areas. If you’re looking for a new roof, why not consider GRP fibreglass roofing?

GRP fibreglass roofing is a great choice for flat roofs that need to be replaced, as a properly laid GRP roof can last at least thirty years with no visible deterioration. Whilst more expensive than felt roofing, the finished product, quality and durability is far superior.

Essentially a boarded decking, the fibreglass cover is laminated over the top of the boards to provide a water-tight surface that will last decades. It’s worth noting that the surface the GRP is laid on to has to be specific as painted or bitumen surfaces inhibit how well the resin cures, but that doesn’t mean you need to replace the surface the GRP will be bonded to if you already have a solid roof in place. As with most surfaces, primers can be used to circumnavigate that particular issue, opening up the potential areas GRP fibreglass roofing can be utilised.

Proper care and attention is required to successfully install GRP fibreglass roofing, even if you’re proficient at laying roofs yourself, paying for a professional to complete the job is going to result in a properly laid roof instead of the potential for wasted time, money and effort. Costs may be higher than other type of roofs available, but durability and ease of maintenance means that on-going costs are negligent and a replacement roof won’t be necessary for at least thirty years.
